Pike Market Child Care & Preschool
Hugs and laughter go hand-in-hand with the
nurturing, educational environment
offered at the Pike Market Child Care & Preschool. Founded in 1982 on the
principle that all children deserve access to high quality care, the Preschool was the first
program in downtown Seattle to make child care
available to families earning a low income. Annually, the Preschool serves 90-100 families
with children ages 18 months to 5 years, approximately 75%
of whom receive tuition assistance.
The Preschool incorporates reading and math readiness, encourages creative and individual expression, and helps build self-esteem and problem-solving skills. The children are also served breakfast, lunch, and afternoon snacks so they receive the nutrition they need to thrive. In addition, the Preschool employs a full-time child and family support professional who identifies and assesses the needs of children and then links theirs families to resources that will meet those needs.
Children in at the Preschool receive excellent care and build the social and learning skills necessary to succeed in kindergarten and beyond. Families in the program have the opportunity to work, job search or go to school confident in the knowledge that their children are safe and nurtured.
